CULink Web Client — Creating a Potential Spam Filter

ITS Help Documents >> ITS E-mail and Calendar Services Documentation >> CULink >> CULink Web Client >> Creating a Potential Spam Filter

Overview

Warning: while setting up a filter of any kind inside of CULink's web client, ITS highly discourages you from selecting the Discard option. If not set up properly, your e-mail could be irrevocably lost until corrected.

Potential spam or junk mail messages are flagged in the subject line of each message as POTENTIAL SPAM. This allows CU-Boulder e-mail users to filter spam and junk mail messages away from their inbox. For more information about ITS's effort against spam go to www.colorado.edu/its/email/spam.html. To learn how to setup a potential spam filter inside CULink's web client, follow the instructions below:

1. Open a web browser and go to CULink's web client, which is located at https://culink.colorado.edu.

2. Sign in with your CU Login Name and IdentiKey password.

3. Once signed in, you will first need to create a folder. Click on the My Folders link, as shown below:

4. In the Folder: text field enter the words Potential Spam, and click on the Add button.

5. The new folder should now be listed.

6. To setup the filter, click on the Options link, as shown below:

7. The Options window will open. To setup your potential spam message filter, click on the Message Filters link, as shown below:

8. Click on the New button.

9. The Add New Filter menu will open, as shown below:

10. In the Filter Conditions section, make sure that If all of these conditions are met: is selected, as shown below:

11. Next, click on the Choose Type drop-down menu.

13. Click on the contains drop-down menu.

14. Select regex-matches, as shown below:

15. In the text field, type the words POTENTIAL SPAM.

16. Next, in the Filter Action section, make sure that the Move to: radio button is selected. Then click on the drop-down menu next to it and select the new Potential Spam folder you created.

17. Click on the Apply button to save and apply your filter.

18. The potential spam filter that you have created will be listed.

19. Messages flagged as potential spam will now be filtered into the potential spam folder that you created. Check this folder regularly for false-positives, and to delete spam messages so your quota doesn't get filled up.
