Configuring E-mail Programs for CULink — Outlook Express

Overview

If you are familiar with setting up an e-mail account with Outlook Express, you can skip to the Quick Start Configuration Settings. If you need assistance in setting up your new account, this document will walk you through setting up a CULink account. You can configure Outlook Express to send and receive CULink e-mail messages. These instructions are for all CULink e-mail users (faculty, staff, students, and sponsored affiliates).

Instructions

Note: these instructions are based off Outlook Express 6 for Windows XP.

1. Click on the Tools drop-down menu and select Accounts....

2. The Internet Accounts window will open. Click on the Mail tab.

3. Click on the Add button, and select Mail.

4. The Internet Connection Wizard will open. In the Display name: text field enter your first and last name.

5. Click the Next button.

6. In the E-mail address: text field enter your e-mail address. Please use the first.last@colorado.edu format.

7. Click on the Next button.

8. In the E-mail Server Names section, perform and enter the following:

  1. From the My incoming mail server is a drop-down menu, select IMAP
  2. In the Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP, or HTTP) server: text field enter culink.colorado.edu
  3. In the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: text field enter smtp.colorado.edu

8. Click on the Next button.

9. In the Internet Mail Logon section enter your information.

  1. In the Account name: text field, enter your CU Login Name
  2. In the Password: text field, enter your IdentiKey password

10. Click on the Next button.

11. Click on the Finish button.

12. In the Internet Accounts window, select the account you just created and click on the Properties button.

13. The Properties window will open. Click on the Servers tab.

14. In the Outgoing Mail Server section, check mark My server requires authentication.

15. Click on the Advanced tab.

16. In the Server Port Numbers section, perform the following steps:

  1. For Outgoing mail (SMTP), check mark This server requires a secure connection (SSL)
  2. For Incoming mail (IMAP), check mark This server requires a secure connection (SSL)

17. Click on the Apply button.

18. In the Internet Accounts window, click on the Close button.

19. When asked if you would like to download folders from the mail server you added, click Yes.

20. You can begin using Outlook Express to send and receive CULink e-mail messages.

Quick Start Configuration Settings

  • Incoming Mail Server
    • Type:  IMAP
    • Host: culink.colorado.edu
      • SSL Enabled
      • Authentication: Password
      • Port: 993
    • User name: your CU Login name
    • Password: your IdentiKey password
    • Root Folder Path: INBOX
  • Outgoing Mail Server
    • Type: SMTP
    • Host: smtp.colorado.edu
      • SSL Enabled
      • Authentication: Password
      • Port: 25
    • User name: your CU Login name
    • Password: your IdentiKey password
