Configuring E-mail Programs for CULink — Mac Mail for OS 10.4

Overview

If you are familiar with setting up an e-mail account with Mac Mail, you can skip to the Quick Start Configuration Settings. If you need assistance in setting up your new account, this document will walk you through setting up a CULink account. You can configure Mac Mail to send and receive CULink e-mail messages. These instructions are for all CULink e-mail users (faculty, staff, students, and sponsored affiliates). If this is your first time starting Apple Mail, the Setup Wizard will automatically start. Please skip to step 4

Instructions

Note: these instructions are based off Apple Mail version 2.1. These instructions do not work for version 1.x.

1. Click on the Mail drop-down menu and select Preferences....

2. The preferences window will open. Click on the Accounts button.

3. From under the Accounts pane on the left, click on the plus (+) button, as shown below:

4. The configuration process will begin. Click on the Account Type: drop-down menu and select IMAP. (Note: if this is the first time you are starting Apple Mail, you will see a welcome message. Click the Next button to get to the window shown below.)

5. Now in the text fields enter your information:

  1. In the Account Description: text field, enter CULink.
  2. In the Full Name: text field, enter your first and last name.
  3. In the Email Address: text field, enter your e-mail address. Please use the first.last@colorado.edu format.

6. Click on the Continue button.

7. In the Incoming Mail Server section, enter the following information:

  1. In the Incoming Mail Server : text field, enter culink.colorado.edu
  2. In the User Name: text field, enter your CU Login Name.
  3. In the Password: text field, enter your IdentiKey password.

8. Click on the Continue button.

9. Some mail users opening the program for the first time will also need to complete steps 10-14. If the following windows appear, please complete steps 10-14. Otherwise, skip to step 15.

10. In the Incoming Mail Security section, do the following:

  1. Check mark Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)
  2. From the Authentication: drop-down menu select Password.

11. Click on the Continue button.

12. In the Outgoing Mail Server section, enter the following information:

  1. In the Outgoing Mail Server : text field, enter smtp.colorado.edu
  2. Check mark Use Authentication
  3. In the User Name: text field, enter your CU Login Name
  4. In the Password: text field, enter your IdentiKey password

13. Click on the Continue button.

14. In the Outgoing Mail Security section, do the following:

  1. Check mark Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)
  2. From the Authentication: drop-down menu select Password.

15. Click on the Continue button.

16. A summary of the account you created will open. Confirm that the configuration details are correct. If you are ready to continue, click on the Continue button.

17. Your account has been created, click on the Done button.

18. Now, click on the Mail drop-down menu and select Preferences...

19. Click on the Accounts button.

20. Click on the Advanced tab, as shown below:

21. In the IMAP Path Prefix: text field type INBOX in all capital letters.

22. Exit out of the Preferences window.

23. You can begin using Mac Mail to send and receive CULink e-mail messages. Your folders will be displayed similar to the image below:

Quick Start Configuration Settings

  • Incoming Mail Server
    • Type:  IMAP
    • Host: culink.colorado.edu
      • SSL Enabled
      • Authentication: Password
      • Port: 993
    • User name: your CU Login name
    • Password: your IdentiKey password
    • Root Folder Path: INBOX
  • Outgoing Mail Server
    • Type: SMTP
    • Host: smtp.colorado.edu
      • SSL Enabled
      • Authentication: Password
      • Port: 25
    • User name: your CU Login name
    • Password: your IdentiKey password
