Instructions for Macromedia Dreamweaver

 

Creating Tunnels with Dreamweaver

**Important Note: Users must first download both putty.exe and plink.exe before creating tunnels with Dreamweaver.

Follow the directions EXACTLY as they appear here. A mistake in any part of the process will force you to start over from the beginning.

1. Create a new folder called SSH inside Dreamweaver’s Configuration folder

2. Download Putty.exe and Plink.exe, and save the files into the SSH folder you just created.

3. Double-click on putty.exe to run the program

4. For Host Name, enter the server that your website is located on. Check the SSH radio button.

5. Enter a name for this session and click the Save button.

6. Click on “Tunnels” at the bottom of the list on the left.

7. For the Source port, enter 2000. For the destination, enter your web host followed by “:1621

8. Click the Add button to save the tunnel.

9. Click back on “Session” at the top of the list, and hit the Save button again.

10. Click “Open” to start the SSH session. If this is the first time connecting to your server, you may get the window below:

11. Enter your username when prompted.

12. Enter your password when prompted.

13. If the username and password are correct, you will be connected.

14. Run Dreamweaver, and then click “Site” and select “Edit sites…” Then select your website and click “Edit…



15. Select “Remote Info” under Category and make sure that FTP is selected.

16. You may need to change certain information about your website. For FTP Host, enter "localhost:2000" Enter your username and password if you haven't already, and check the "Use Passive FTP" box. Also make sure that "Use SSH encrypted secure login" is checked. Click OK.


17. Dreamweaver should now be configured to use SSH through Putty.
