Macintosh Secure Telnet Instructions

Overview

When connecting to ITS servers, such as spot and rintintin, you need to use a secure connection. The Secure Mac package includes tools to make secure connections to ITS servers, as well as a recommended FTP program called Fetch.

Download and Installation

Making Connections

  • ITS's Secure Mac Installer has two programs, which are both found in the Applications folder:
    • Fetch FTP
    • Secure connections program, see below.

Secure Connections program

The Secure Connections program has two ways to connect to an ITS server, and all three ways first prompt you for your username, and then opens up the Terminal application and prompts you for a password. The two connection methods are:

  1. SSH, which uses your host password for authentication.
  2. SSH Tunnel, which uses your host password for authentication.

Additional Connection Information

  • ITS servers require Secure FTP (SFTP) connections.
  • Dreamweaver
    • If you're connecting to an ITS server using Dreamweaver make sure you have checkmarked Use Secure FTP (SFTP).
