Outlook Express e-mail client users are now required to improve e-mail security by configuring this e-mail program for secure connections, also known as SSL (Secure Sockets Layer). To configure your e-mail client for SSL involves making a slight modification to your e-mail settings. Follow these instructions to secure your connection. Configuring Outlook Express for secure connections

1. To open Outlook Express, click on the Start button, go to Programs and then select Outlook Express 5

2. Once the program is open, click on the Tools drop-down menu.

3. Select Accounts.

4. Click on the Mail tab, select the CU e-mail account you want to make secure, and click the Properties button.

5. Click on the Advanced tab near the top right.

6. NOTE: In the Outgoing Mail section, do not check mark the box associated with This server requires a secure connection SSL. Leave it unchecked.

7. Under the Incoming Mail selection, check mark the box associated with This server requires a secure connection (SSL).

Your window will look like one of the following:

8. Click OK.

9. Click the Close button to close the Internet Accounts window.

10. Now test what you have done by sending and receiving e-mail. You can do this by composing an e-mail to yourself, sending the e-mail, and checking for new messages. If this process runs successfully you have properly configured this e-mail client for secure connections.

11. If you run into errors while checking or sending mail, go through steps 1-10 to verify the configuration changes you have made.

12. Congratulations! Your e-mail client should now be set for secure connections (SSL).
