Activating your IdentiKey

To activate your IdentiKey, or to set a new password for your IdentiKey, follow the instructions below:

  1. Account activation involves setting your password for your IdentiKey. To activate your IdentiKey open a web browser (i.e. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, etc.) and go to CUConnect (https://cuconnect.colorado.edu).
  2. Click on the IdentiKey/Login Help link in CUConnect's login box. You will be taken to a page with CUConnect login information.
  3. Click on the link in the applicable IdentiKey password bullet (forgotten password, change password, or activate IdentiKey). A new page will display requesting your credentials.
  4. Enter your student ID (if you are a student) or employee ID (if you are an employee), date of birth, and the last four digits of your Social Security Number.
  5. Create a unique password that is different from your e-mail password.  You will need to enter this new password twice.  For information about creating a strong password, see below.

After your IdentiKey has been activated, you should be able to access IdentiKey services such as CUConnect, CULearn, SkillSoft, ITS computer labs, and modem pools.

IdentiKey password requirements and guidelines

When creating an IdentiKey password:

  • Passwords MUST:
    • be at least 8 characters.
    • include three character sets, such as upper case letters, lower case letters, numbers, and punctuation.
  • Passwords CANNOT include :
    • contain a colon (:), a pound sign (#), a single quote ('), a square brace ([ ]), a space or a tab.
    • be based on your personal name or any common names.
    • be found in the dictionary in any form, even with an uppercase letter in the middle.
    • be based on proper nouns, including geographic locations.
    • have more than 3 repeated characters - thus a password with the string "aaa" anywhere in it would be rejected.

IdentiKey lockout precaution

After five unsuccessful IdentiKey login attempts, your IdentiKey will be locked out. If you are locked out, you can reset your password by clicking here.
