CULink Known Issues
This page will be updated with known usability issues for both CULink e-mail and calendaring functions, including potential workarounds and/or progress toward resolution of the issues. Please note that at this time, CULink calendaring is available for individual scheduling that doesn't involve sending invites to others. Support for group calendaring and resource scheduling will be available soon.
E-mail Issues
Auto-complete
- Impact: The CULink auto-complete feature
helps fill in e-mail addresses when composing new messages. This feature
can stop working when you use the “quick-add” method to
add new contacts (i.e. clicking on the dropdown menu that appears when
you click on a person’s e-mail address in a received message).
- Workaround:You can restart the auto-complete
service by going into the Contacts panel on the left-hand side of the
CULink web interface and adding a new contact manually.
- Resolution: ITS is currently working
with the vendor to resolve this issue.

Apple Mail: Moving Messages
- Impact: Moving a large amount of mail—a total size that exceeds the user’s remaining quota—between folders in Apple Mail may result in the messages being inadvertently deleted (see issue Apple Mail: Deleted Messages ).
- Workaround: Make sure that when moving messages, you never move an amount that exceeds your remaining quota.
- Resolution: ITS has reported this bug to Apple.
- Last updated: October 2, 2007.
Apple Mail: Deleted Messages
- Impact: Those that have not configured the Apple Mail IMAP Path Prefix to INBOX could inadvertently delete any messages that are moved to the “deletedmessages” area.
- Workaround: Setting the IMAP Path Prefix to INBOX (see online documentation) turns off the “deletedmessages” area. You will no longer see the “deletedmessages” area and therefore no longer be able to inadvertently delete messages caused by this bug.
- Resolution: ITS has reported this bug to Apple.
- Last updated: October 2, 2007.
Apple Mail: Message Status
- Impact: Apple Mail users may see anomalies with the status of messages, including deleted messages reverting to undeleted and read messages reverting to unread.
- Workaround: Storing deleted messages locally as opposed to on the server may correct this problem. Another workaround is to choose "Go Offline" from the Mailbox menu. Then go back and choose "Go Online" from the same menu. Using another desktop e-mail program such as Entourage should eradicate this problem completely.
- Resolution: ITS is currently working with the vendor to resolve this issue.
- Last updated: March 27, 2007.
Poor performance when using a dial-up Internet connection
- Impact: CULink web interface performance from dial-up and other connections could be slow resulting in lengthy logins, slow navigation, lengthy page paint times and other performance issues.
- Workaround: Using an e-mail program such as Microsoft Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird should improve performance when using CULink from a dial-up connection.
- Resolution: The vendor is aware of this issue but no resolution is expected at this time.
- Last updated: August 22, 2007.
Message Size Limit
- Impact: Large messages that are in excess of 30 MB but are smaller than the default message size limit, have been rejected on occasion.
- Resolution: ITS has reset the default message size to 30 MB to balance user need with technological capabilities. If you have a need to regularly share files larger than 30 MB, please contact the IT Service Center for solutions.
- Last updated: April 23, 2007.
Display Name
- Impact: The name that is displayed on outgoing messages and in the CULink web client is your full legal name (e.g., Tom Smith appears as Thomas A Smith).
- Resolution: Display name change requests can be made by contacting the IT Service Center.
- Last updated: March 27, 2007.
Internet Explorer 6
- Impact: If pop-up blocker is turned on, and you attempt to click on the reply button, no reply window opens.
- Workaround: Turn off pop-up blocker or add culink.colorado.edu to list of allowed sites in your pop-up blocker.

Apple Mail
- Impact: Apple Mail users may see anomalies with the status of messages, including deleted messages reverting to undeleted and read messages reverting to unread.
- Workaround: Storing deleted messages locally as opposed to on the server may correct this problem. Another workaround is to choose "Go Offline" from the Mailbox menu. Then go back and choose "Go Online" from the same menu. Using another desktop e-mail program such as Entourage should eradicate this problem completely.

Calendar Issues
Please note that at this time CULink calendaring does not include support for group calendaring and resource scheduling.
Safari: Recurring Calendar Events
- Impact: The Safari popup blocker prevents users from deleting recurring calendar events.
- Workaround: Before deleting events from the CULink Calendar, turn off the popup blocker by going to the Safari menu (Mac) or the Edit menu (Windows) and deselect “Block Pop-Up Windows”
- Resolution: ITS is currently working with the vendor to resolve this issue.

Resolved Issues
Safari
- Impact: Those using Safari web browser to access the CULink web interface may experience occasional screen display problems.
- Workaround: A short-term alternative is to use Firefox (download it for free at www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox).
- Resolution: ITS has resolved this issue and it should no longer happen. If something like this does happen to you, please contact the IT Service Center.

Internet Explorer 7
- Impact: When viewing a message and clicking in the body of the message, the text will sometimes disappear.
- Workaround: A short-term alternative is to use Firefox (download it for free at www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox).
- Resolution: This issue was resolved with the updates applied August 11, 2007.

Menu Rendering
- Impact: When navigating though the CULink interface, sometimes items on the left-side menu disappear.
- Logging out and logging back in reliably corrects the problem.
- Resolution: This issue was resolved with the updates applied August 11, 2007.
- Last updated: August 22, 2007.
Months ending in odd numbered days
- Impact: The navigation panes cannot be used to select the last day of the month for months ending in odd numbered days (29 or 31); selecting one of these days will revert the calendar back to the first day of the month. Also, when using the "New Event" button to schedule an event on one of these days, the calendar will revert back to the first day of the month.
- Resolution: This issue was resolved with the updates applied August 11, 2007.
- Last updated: August 22, 2007.
Reminder Bounce
- Impact: Event reminders may not be delivered and result in a bounced back message.
- Resolution: This issue was resolved with the updates applied August 11, 2007.
- Last updated: August 22, 2007.
Calendar Filters
- Impact: Calendar filters do not filter as specified. Radio buttons in filters do not remain selected, and revert back to the default.
- Resolution: This issue was resolved with the updates applied August 11, 2007.
- Last updated: August 22, 2007.
Compose Box
- Impact: When sending a message with the web client, an occasional freeze might be observed, often followed by the window closing. When this happens, the message could be lost and undelivered.
- Workaround: As a precaution, users could select and copy the composed message text, so that in the case of a compose box crash, the text can be pasted into a new compose box. Users might also consider selecting the "request a delivery receipt" option to receive confirmation that the message was indeed sent.
- Resolution: ITS has resolved this issue and it should no longer happen. If something like this does happen to you, please contact the IT Service Center.
- Last updated: June 5, 2007.
Deleting Messages
- Impact: Inability to "Compact" messages marked for deletion when the "Delete to Trash" setting is set to "No" (the default setting). This occurs when a message is marked for deletion by checking the box to the left of the message and clicking the "Delete" button, and then clicking the "Compact" option under the "Delete" button, nothing happens; messages marked for deletion remain untouched.
- Resolution: ITS has resolved this issue and it should no longer happen. If something like this does happen to you, please contact the IT Service Center.
- Last updated: March 29, 2007.
IMAP Connections
- Impact: Desktop e-mail programs may experience IMAP time-out connection error messages. This could result in slow or non-delivery of messages. These dropped connections can also cause actions like the moving of mail messages between folders and expunging deleted messages.
- Workaround: Close and reopen your desktop e-mail program or attempt to reconnect to the IMAP server.
- Resolution: ITS has resolved this issue and it should no longer happen. If something like this does happen to you, please contact the IT Service Center.
