Have you recently updated your i>clicker software?

Posted: 9-2-09

If you've performed a web update to your i>clicker software and upgraded to version 5.4, you may have noticed that you aren't able to synchronize your student's clicker ID numbers with their login names. Follow the steps below to remedy this.

Should you upgrade:

1. You will need to provide a security code for each section or class in which you are using i>clickers. This means you will have to set the settings and preferences for each course in your i>clickers folder.

2. Open i>clicker, and select your course from the classes menu.

3. Click on the Settings and Preferences box.

4. Select the Registration and Export tab.

5. Copy and paste the following string of code into the box called "security code":

SQLhttp://cuclickers.colorado.edu:8080/IClicker/GetRegistered?c=

6. Choose Set for Course from the boxes at the bottom of the Settings and Preferences window.

First Steps

  1. Check to see if the classroom you are teaching in has an i>clicker receiver in the media cabinet.
  2. If the classroom you'll be teaching in does not have an i>clicker receiver in the media cabinet, you can check one out on a semester basis from the IT Service Center.
  3. Download CUClickers software:
  4. Read the Instructor Kit Guide
    • CUClickers_InstructorKits.pdf
This PDF is the same guide that is found in the Instructor Kit box. It contains FAQs and getting started information.
  5. Read the i>clicker User Guide
    • CUClickers_pcuserguide.pdf
This 38 page PDF is a comprehensive guide to using CUClickers in the classroom. It uses a Windows system to demonstrate the steps, however this guide should help even if you're on a Mac.

Tip!

Dr. Douglas Duncan from the Department of Astrophysical and Planetary Sciences and author of Clickers in the Classroom has created a document called "Tips for Successful 'Clicker' Use." Download this PDF or Word doc if you'd like to learn some helpful tips for intergrating CUClickers into your course.
