How To Apply

 Applicants will be notified about their admission status no later than March 31, 2017. Only applications fulfilling all of the steps below will receive review.

 Required Materials for Complete Application 

You may learn more about the GRE, including exam dates and locations, from the Educational Testing Service. You will be required to connect your GRE exam results to your Online Application via the college codes noted below. The University of Colorado Boulder college code for the following:
  • GRE test: 4841
  • TOEFL test: 4841
  • GMAT: 11S-MH-08
  • You may supply a GMAT or LSAT exam score in place of the GRE. 
  • The exam test date must be no older than five years prior to your application term. 


You will upload this document with the online application under section A of "Upload Documents". Include the following details within the Statement of Purpose:​​

  • Describe your interest in pursuing an interdisciplinary degree;
  • Indicate your first preference track and why this focus area interests you;
  • Include your educational aspirations; and
  • Include any other information you think might be of interest to the admissions committee.

Note: PhD study is only available on-campus.

The letters should accurately reflect your academic aptitude, work ethic, knowledge and character.
  • If you have recently earned your undergraduate degree, it is highly recommended that these letters be obtained from members of the academic community.

  • If you have been in the workforce for a while, letters of recommendations from current and former employers are suitable.

  • Request that your references submit letters of recommendation via the online application system under "Background Information". Your recommenders will not receive notification to complete the recommendation until after you have submitted your application.

  • We require one copy of the scanned transcript from each undergraduate and graduate institution which you attended.

    • If you have earned a Bachelor's or Master's degree, please include a copy of your degree certificate. 

  • Unofficial transcripts must be submitted from each institution, regardless of the length of attendance, and whether or not courses were completed.  This includes:

    • Extension programs
    • Summer sessions
    • Community colleges
  • ​​ONLY after you have been admitted to ITP will you be required to provide official transcripts and degree certificate(s). 

  • Note: Failure to list and submit transcripts from all institutions previously attended is considered to be a violation of academic ethics and may result in the cancelation of your admission or dismissal from the university. 

  • CU admissions professionals will evaluate your non-US academic work after your transcripts have been received. 
    • You do not need to take any action on this requirement.
    • You do not need to have a third-party credential evaluator to review your transcripts.
    • You do not need to convert to a US GPA.


  • Payable online at the time you submit your application or by check or money order (made payable to the University of Colorado) after you submit your application.
  • If submitting a check or money order, include your full legal name and date of birth.

 Post Application

You will receive an email message from CU confirming successful submission of your application within twenty-four hours.

  • Check your application status through the MyCUBoulder portal.
