Achromatic Systems: An Even Closer Look

Below are images of the "3" in the upper right hand corner of the images shown in Figure 3. Again the individual channels cooresponding to red, green and blue are shown as well as the composite, three color image.

The standard system obviously has a large amount of chromatic aberration. While the blue channel is well focused, the green and red channels have such a large amount of focus shift that a considerable amount of spatial resolution is lost.

The optical/digital imaging system, in comparison, shows nearly ideal imagery. It is obvious that the system is indeed achromatic as well as spatially near-diffraction limited for each color.
