Professor Jack Burns awarded NASA’s Exceptional Service Medal
Jack Burns, professor of astrophysical and planetary sciences received NASA's Exceptional Service Medal Jan. 5 at a ceremony at NASA Headquarters. Burns was recognized for his service as chair of NASA's Advisory Council's Science Committee. The Exceptional Service Medal is awarded for significant, sustained performance characterized by unusual initiative or creative ability that clearly demonstrates substantial improvements or contributions in engineering, aeronautics, spaceflight, administration, support, or space-related endeavors that contribute to NASA’s mission.

Professor Joanne Belknap receives Gee Award
Joanne Belknap, professor of sociology, has received the 2009 Elizabeth D. Gee Memorial Lectureship Award. Belknap’s work focuses on violence against women and girls, and female offenders. She has secured almost a million dollars in grant money to conduct research on women, girls, and crime as a principal or co-principal investigator, and has served on state advisory boards for female offenders and women in prison and on U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno’s Violence Against Women Committee. She is currently an executive counselor of the American Society of Criminology. The Gee Award honors an outstanding CU faculty member for efforts to advance women in academia, interdisciplinary scholarly contributions and distinguished teaching. Call for nominations: Employee of the Year Award
The Chancellor's Employee of the Year Award is presented annually to CU-Boulder staff in recognition and appreciation of exceptional job performance. The award includes a prize of $1,500 and a commemorative keepsake. All Boulder campus classified and exempt professional staff may be nominated. Nominations are accepted from fellow staff, faculty or students who have firsthand knowledge of the nominee's performance. The nomination deadline is Tuesday, March 16.
