Laurie Sampsel receives 2009 Provost’s Faculty Achievement Award
Laurie Sampsel, faculty director of the Howard B. Waltz Music Library, is the recipient of the 2009 Provost’s Faculty Achievement Award. The award comes with a $1,000 research/creative work grant and a plaque. The commendation from Interim Provost Stein Sture noted Sampsel’s 2008 book on music research published by Oxford University Press. Laurie will be recognized at the Fall Convocation on Oct. 16 in Old Main Chapel.
William Emery recognized for contributions to geoscience
Professor William ''Bill'' Emery received an award for outstanding contributions to geoscience at the 2009 IEEE International Geoscience & Remote Sensing Symposium, a vast international meeting devoted to geoscience, the expanding branch of science that closely monitors the health of the planet using satellites. Emery has been a professor of aerospace engineering at the Colorado Center for Astrodynamics Research (CCAR) since 1987.

Ben Kirshner awarded for scholarship of engagement
School of Education Assistant Professor Ben Kirshner has received the 2009 Ernest A. Lynton Citation for Distinguished Engaged Scholarship, one of the most prestigious national awards for early career faculty. The annual Ernest A. Lynton Award for the Scholarship of Engagement recognizes a faculty member who connects his or her teaching, research and service to community engagement. Beginning in 2009, the Lynton Award was designated as an award for early career faculty.
