AWARDS AND KUDOS
Librarian wins top award in geoscience publishing
Map Librarian Kathryn Lage’s article, “Zoom! Remote Sensing Imagery in the Geosciences” was selected for the 2009 best paper award for excellence in geoscience publishing, presented by the Geoscience Information Society at the 2009 annual meeting in Portland, Oregon in October. Lage is map librarian at the Jerry Crail Johnson Earth Sciences and Map Library at CU-Boulder. The paper will appear in volume 38 of Proceedings of the Geoscience Information Society. The Geoscience Information Society is an international professional organization devoted to improving the exchange of information in the earth sciences.
EcoStar Challenge winners
Congratulations to the CU residence halls participating in the EcoStar Challenge, a hall competition to reduce consumption of electricity and water and increase recycling over the same semester from the previous year. Elect Reduction: 1st Kitt West, 2nd Farrand, 3rd Arnett. Water Reduction: 1st Sewall, 2nd Farrand, 3rd Libby. Recycling Increase: 1st Kitt West, 2nd Sewall, 3rd Brackett/Cockerell. The competition resulted in a reduction of 29 tons of greenhouse gases over the fall semester 2008.
BFA Excellence awards nominations due Feb. 5
The Boulder Faculty Assembly is pleased to announce that up to 12 awards in the amount of $3,000 each for faculty excellence will be granted in the spring of 2010. Up to four awards will be presented for excellence in each of the following categories: teaching, service, research, scholarly and creative work. The deadline for receipt of all nomination materials is Friday, Feb. 5, 2010. For award details and nomination instructions, please visit the BFA website.
