IN THE SPOTLIGHT People Behind the Scenes
Who keeps our university in top shape? It’s the People Behind the Scenes! Meet Jane Curtis, director of the Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Program, part of the Division of Student Affairs. Curtis provides direction for the campus-wide alcohol and other drug program, working to create a healthy environment, expand current efforts regarding alcohol free social and recreational activities, support student-led initiatives, provide prevention, early intervention and treatment programs, and to enforce policies and provide opportunities for students to become engaged community members. What is one thing you would like people to know about the work you do? I'm very committed to working with a range of people to create a healthy environment in which all community members can thrive. Working with college students regarding AOD issues is difficult yet rewarding. Many students develop dangerous drinking habits in high school that carry over into college; some students come to college as abstainers, and there is everything in between. The drinking culture exists in our broader society and I'm encouraged that we have a committed group of campus and community members working collaboratively to address this complex issue. I'm also very excited about the work I'm doing with faculty – they are key stakeholders and I appreciate the opportunity to work with and learn from them. It is great to see more students getting involved and helping their peers to understand that they have tremendous influence in creating a healthy and safe environment both on and off campus. What do you like best about being a part of the CU community? What is your favorite activity/interest outside of work? To participate in People Behind the Scenes or to recommend a colleague, see the guidelines. |
