Thank you to Bike to Work Day participants Congratulations to everyone who participated in Bike to Work Day 2008 on June 25! CU-Boulder participants numbered more than 400, among them many department groups including Continuing Education, Center for Astrophysics and Space Astronomy, LASP, Career Services, Admissions, ITS, the College of Music, CIRES and SASC. Affiliates at NIST, NOAA, NCAR and the Colorado Shakespeare Festival also showed strong group participation. In addition, approximately 700 people were served at the two CU-Boulder breakfast stations at Broadway and Euclid, and Colorado and Folsom.
Christine Arguello nominated for District Court vacancy Congratulations to Chief Legal Counsel Christine Arguello, who on Thursday, July 10 was nominated to fill a vacancy on the bench of the United States District Court for the District of Colorado. Arguello, chief legal counsel for CU-Boulder since 2006, was named by President Bush for one of three vacancies on the federal court. She is a 1977 graduate of CU-Boulder (with special honors) and a 1980 Harvard Law School graduate. She is the first Latina from Colorado admitted to Harvard’s law school, the first Latina deputy attorney general in Colorado history and the first Hispanic partner – male or female – in one of Colorado’s “big four” law firms, Denver’s Holland & Hart.
Retirement party for Shashi Pillai In June, Shashi Pillai announced her retirement from Human Resources, effective Aug. 8. During her 30 years at CU she worked as a trainer and as the communications and outreach coordinator for HR. She also conducted new employee orientations and coordinated the University Perspective Program. Shashi’s retirement party takes place Aug. 7 at Koenig Alumni Center from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. All are welcome. Please RSVP by August 1 by emailing Rosie Compean or calling 492-6893.
