New look and feel for www.colorado.edu
Watch for a new version of the official CU-Boulder website on Thursday, March 27. In addition to a more streamlined look and feel, the site features a rollout of Google as the main search engine and a new A to Z, which combines listings of official university websites and directory information. Information on how to switch individual site searches over to using Google will be available in mid-April.
Forty-Third Annual George Gamow Memorial Lecture
Kerry Emanuel, professor of atmospheric science
at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, will give the 43rd annual Gamow Memorial Lecture, "Is Global Warming Affecting Hurricanes?" Thursday, April 3 at 7:30 p.m.
in Macky Auditorium
. The event is free and open to the public. Professor Emanuel's research focuses on tropical meteorology and climate, specializing in hurricane physics. The George Gamow Memorial Lectures were initiated by the Department of Physics and Mrs. Barbara Gamow to honor the eminent Russian-born physicist who joined the faculty of the Department of Physics in 1956.
President's Distinguished Lecture Series presents Thomas Mallon
As part of the President's Distinguished Lecture Series, author Thomas Mallon will discuss "Space and the Literary Imagination" on Thursday, April 3 at 5 p.m. in Eaton Humanities Room 150. Mallon is the author of several books including "Fellow Travelers," "Dewey Defeats Truman," "Henry and Clara," "Stolen Words: The Classic Book on Plagiarism" and "Aurora 7," about Scott Carpenter's space mission. Participate with CU in One Book One Boulder County
Join CU in the countywide reading program, One Book One Boulder County and read "Rocket Boys" by Homer Hickam. A few copies are still available for check out in the Office of Community Relations. Saturday, April 12 swing by Fiske for a full day of family fun. From 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. attend a family workshop on rocket making presented by Science Discovery. A free public showing of "October Sky" (the movie based on the book) starts at 5 p.m. in the planetarium. Thursday, April 17 there will be a $35 per person dinner at the East Stadium Club on campus. Author Homer Hickam will read from his book. Contact the Boulder Public Library if you'd like to attend this event. Friday, April 18 join the author at Macky for a free pubic talk and book signing.

FIRST Lego League celebrates partnership with CU
On Wednesday, March 19, the Colorado FIRST Lego League and CU-Boulder celebrated their continued partnership in support of middle school science and engineering. A plaque was presented to Provost Phil DiStefano and Engineering Dean Robert Davis in honor of their tournament sponsorship. FIRST Lego League's regional competition was held at CU-Boulder November 2007. The FIRST Lego League program encourages student teams to solve engineering challenges and think creatively about topical science and engineering issues.
Tuition Benefit Program
Eligible employees can waive up to six credit hours per academic year depending on their full-time employee status. Supervisors must approve courses that are job relevant and/or career enhancing. An academic year begins with the summer term. For summer 2008, forms need to be completed, signed and turned into the Bursar's Office 43 UCB by May 2. Detailed information about the faculty and staff tuition benefit is available on the Bursar's Office website.
New free resume program for students
Career Services is sponsoring the innovative OptimalResume program free for all currently enrolled students. By using this fast and easy resume building software, students can create up to five resumes for different purposes.
