People Behind the Scenes
People Behind the Scenes

Who keeps our university in top shape? It's the People Behind the Scenes! Meet Rosa Compean, assistant in the Office of the Director of Human Resources.

What is one thing you would like people to know about the work you do?
My work in the Department of Human Resources involves several duties like helping people, which is one of my strong traits. I am the first point of contact in the director’s office and having the most popular number on campus is no easy task, but I will gladly lend a hand to make sure the callers are directed to the appropriate department to get the help they need. In many ways it leads me to ask and get answers that benefit both of us. I also manage the Employment Eligibility Verification forms for new hires, otherwise known as the I-9. As part of I-9s I conduct trainings for department employees who have an interest in becoming a part of the I-9 Partner Program that allows them to sign the I-9 form outside of Human Resources, which makes it convenient for the employee.

My favorite part of the job is coordinating and organizing our annual HR events. The events allow us to come together as a department to recognize our accomplishments, learn about each other and have fun at the same time. I think our unit is great! I’m willing to assist anyone else who needs help when it comes to acquiring the proper forms for functions, recognition reporting or certificates.

What do you like best about being a part of the CU community?
I like the fact that I work with many wonderful people and have the opportunity to meet more. I am proud of all the work that HR does. We have so many talented people from the top down. We all work hard but should make time to play and laugh hard, too. We must remember that! I envy my coworkers who have developed lasting friendships with other CU community members over the years. I would like to have the same. And you couldn't ask for a better location, the Flatirons backdrop is so spectacular.

What is your favorite activity/interest outside of work?
I try to cherish and am thankful for each day I have with my family. I enjoy doing home improvement projects, and finishing them is even better! My favorite activity outside of work is playing team sports such as volleyball, softball, soccer and kickball with family and friends.
