IN THE SPOTLIGHT CU Concerts makes a big move by Laima Gaigalas, marketing and PR manager, College of Music
When Monday, Jan. 5 rolls around and CU-Boulder employees return to their desks, the CU Concerts box office and administrative offices will be open for business in their new location at the University Club on the corner of Broadway and Euclid Ave. CU Concerts has served the community from its current Imig Music Building location for over 15 years, but the small space has limited operations for over 10 of those. “We’ve been working on securing a more functional space for our box office for a long time,” said Executive Director of Concerts Joan McLean Braun. “By doubling the total amount of workstations available we’ll be able to serve our patrons more effectively and handle larger sales volume.” Operations Manager Sandy Miller adds, “with the increasing importance of protecting customer information, it was clear that we needed a more functional, secure space to properly handle confidential financial information.” The new box office does more than facilitate current operations; it’s also laying the foundation for an integrated box office for the CU community. “Throughout this process we’ve been collaborating with the Department of Theatre and Dance and Colorado Shakespeare Festival with the goal of eventually combining our box office operations,“ said Braun. “Aside from the obvious advantages of efficiency and convenience for patrons, having a central location for community members to purchase tickets for arts and culture events on campus would raise the profile of the CU-Boulder community as a whole. Provost Phil DiStefano has certainly recognized the value of that vision and his help has been instrumental in moving the project forward. Stay tuned for more combined box office developments in the next few years.” CU community members are invited to visit CU Concerts’ new offices anytime after Jan. 5, and the staff especially welcomes all to attend an open house at the University Club Wednesday, Jan. 21 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. There will be light refreshments and an opportunity to meet the staff and ask questions. For answers to questions about CU Concerts or the move, please call 303-492-8008 or visit the CU Concerts website. Box office staff will not be available in person or by phone Dec. 15 through Jan. 4, but tickets can be purchased online during that time. |
