IN THE SPOTLIGHT Staff Council ice cream social coming soon By Dana Silva, sophomore, School of Journalism and Mass Communication
Boulder Campus Staff Council is helping CU-Boulder staff to stay cool in the summer heat with the First Annual Ice Cream Social Employee Information Fair, Wednesday, Aug. 1 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the lawn in front of the Hellems Arts and Sciences building. All employees are invited to relax and enjoy a choice of ice cream, including vanilla, chocolate and strawberry ice cream cups, sugar-free popsicles, and ice cream sandwiches. Ice cream is not the only attraction. Faculty and staff members can socialize while hearing about employee opportunities and information. “We want to deliver information to staff about discounts and possibilities available to them as CU-Boulder employees,” said Patti Zike, staff council office administrator. Staff will learn about numerous topics including employee unions, alternative health services, and discounts. Various vendors such as Boulder Parks and Recreation, CU Bookstore, Eldorado Spring Water, The Sink, Wardenburg Community Health, and PERA will be participating. “The wide variety of vendors at the event will give staff a chance to get to know about all of the opportunities they have while working at CU-Boulder,” Zike said. The anticipated ice cream social has been a work in progress of Staff Council Outreach Events co-chairs Dan Gette and Pauline Olivas since late April. Future events for the council include the Fall Staff Appreciation Breakfast and the big CU vs. CSU blood drive, Sept. 10-14 in UMC 235. To find more information about the ice cream social and a full list of the 33 vendors participating, visit the Boulder Campus Staff Council website. |
