IN THE SPOTLIGHT

People Behind the Scenes
People Behind the Scenes

Who keeps our university in top shape? It's the People Behind the Scenes! Meet Robin Arellano, Suzanne Parquette, Dixie Marler and Melissa Holycross, dispatchers for Facilities Management.

A note on the duties of Facilities Management Service Center dispatchers: this unit exists to provide routine and emergency maintenance dispatching, work management, life safety, fire and environmental alarm monitoring as well as other communication services. Dispatchers help to protect life and property of the university and its community, provide smooth coordination of maintenance and building activity, and act as a communication/command center between Facilities Management and the campus in cases of emergency.

What I want people to know about the work I do is that the service dispatcher position takes calls from internal and external customers to maintain over 100 buildings on campus.

What do you like best about being a part of the CU community?
One of the things I like about being part of the CU community is the benefits.

What is one thing you would like people to know about the work you do?
The one thing I would like for people to know about our work is that we are here 24 hours a day and 7 days a week for the campus community.

What do you like best about being a part of the CU community?
The best thing about the CU community is the beautiful surroundings – our location is breathtaking.

What is your favorite activity/interest outside of work?
My favorite activity/interest outside of work would have to be my family, my grandsons.

Melissa Holycross

What is one thing you would like people to know about the work you do?
The thing I would like people to know about the work that I do is that working the third shift at the Service Center is challenging with regard to calling out appropriate personnel to respond to emergency calls and alarms, and rewarding by ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone who resides or works here on the CU-Boulder campus.

What do you like best about being a part of the CU community?
I enjoy great working relations with FacMan and always appreciate their support and hard work. I also look forward to seeing the change of seasons on this beautiful CU-Boulder campus.

What is your favorite activity/interest outside of work?
My favorite activity outside of work is hiking in the mountains while observing wildlife in their natural habitat.
