CUnity Gathering Builds Community On and Off Campus
Kudos to the Building Community Committee for sponsoring another successful CUnity gathering for campus community members on June 8. This year's donors included the Boulder Spa On Broadway, Tapestry IV Seasons Salon & Spa, Casa Alvarez, Abo's Pizza on the Hill, Glacier Ice Cream, Boulder Cork, Target, the Kitchen Café, Full Moon Grill & Pasta, Half Fast Subs, Borders, Sensorielle Spa, Haagen Dazs, and King Soopers. Campus donors included the Vice Chancellor's Office for Student Affairs, Housing and Dining Services, Wardenburg Student Wellness Program, the Recreation Center and the CU Bookstore.
Architecture and Planning Receives Major Gift
The College of Architecture and Planning has received a $2.5 million gift from an anonymous donor, the largest gift by an individual donor in the history of the Denver campus. The gift will endow the Children, Youth and Environments Center for Research and Design, which studies the influence of the environment on children and coordinates interdisciplinary activities, research and teaching to policy and practice in environmental design and community development for youth. The College of Architecture and Planning delivers programs to graduate students through the downtown Denver campus and undergraduate programs on the Boulder campus.
Professor Emeritus Al Bartlett Gives Notable Talks in Switzerland
On June 2 Professor Emeritus of Physics Albert Bartlett delivered the commencement address for graduation ceremonies at the International School Basel in Switzerland, a private school for English speaking children in the Basel area. During his visit, Bartlett gave his talk "Sustainability 101: Arithmetic, Population and Energy" at a May 31 public meeting and again at the school on June 1. The second talk was number 1,600. Since September 19, 1969, Bartlett has given the talk 1,600 times, an average of about once every 8.5 days for 36 years.
