Takács Quartet Wins BBC Music Magazine Award
The Takács Quartet's recording of Beethoven's late quartets for Decca/Universal has been awarded Disc of the Year at the first ever BBC Music Magazine Awards held in London March 15. The recording also was the winner in the Chamber Music category. The awards recognize the best classical music recordings released in 2005. Ethical and Civic Engagement Grants Awarded
The Institute for Ethical and Civic Engagement has awarded $35,000 in grants to support six curricular projects focused on promoting responsible citizenship in CU-Boulder students. The recipients are Seana Lowe, INVST Community Studies; Andrea Feldman, Program for Writing and Rhetoric; Jill Tompkins, Law School; Vanessa Baird, Michaele Ferguson and David Mapel, political science department; Ellen Aiken and Karen Ramirez, Sewall Residential Academic Program; and Christine Macdonald, Program for Writing and Rhetoric.

Marinus G. Smith Award Winners
Ten faculty and staff members were honored with the 2006 Marinus G. Smith Recognition Awards from the CU Parents Association earlier this month. This year's recipients are Susan Heinzeroth, Leeds School of Business; Deb Coffin, Housing and Dining Services; Ghislain Sabre, French and Italian department; Mark Ablowitz, applied mathematics; Michael Mills, Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics; Adam Norris, applied mathematics; Laurel Asel, psychology department; Steven Pollock, physics department; Phil Mitchell, Sewall Residential Academic Program; and Captain James Koehler, Naval ROTC. The award recognizes faculty, instructors and staff who have made a significant impact on the lives of one or more CU-Boulder undergraduates, based on nominations from students and parents.
Moe's Bagel for a Book Drive Exceeds 2,000 Books
Community Relations and Moe's Bagel have partnered for the past five years in collecting new and gently used children"s books for local nonprofits and schools during the Dr. Seuss Read Across America celebrations. Each year the drive has increased the number of books donated and the number of bagels traded. More than 2,000 books have been collected and donated during the partnership. Be on the look out next March and swap a book for a bagel!
