IN THE SPOTLIGHT People Behind the Scenes
Who keeps our university in top shape? It's the People Behind the Scenes! Meet Vivien Roach, manager of the College of Arts and Sciences Financial Service Centers. What is one thing you would like people to know about the work you do? One of the best things about my job is that I have the opportunity to work directly with students, faculty and staff. I enjoy helping them navigate the myriad of fiscal rules and regulations so that they may focus on academics. My primary job responsibility is to oversee three Financial Service Centers (FSCs) within the College of Arts and Sciences. The FSCs are staffed with accounting specialists who process financial and payroll transactions on behalf of 46 academic departments, programs and centers. The FSC concept was developed approximately four years ago in response to increased department workloads within the College. It is exciting to be part of a relatively new organizational structure- to see it evolve over time and watch the FSC concept gain acceptance as an excellent way to conduct business at the University. What do you like best about being a part of the CU community? I've always loved the campus environment. There is a sense of learning everywhere you go. There are people here from all around the world and all walks of life. I am fortunate that my office is located in historic Old Main right in the heart of campus. I enjoy being able to get out and about across campus to attend various meetings and functions. The campus is a beautiful place to walk during all the seasons of the year. What is your favorite activity/interest outside of work? Outside of spending time with my daughters and young grandchildren, I'd have to say that my current interest is traveling. Now that our children are adults, my husband and I are slowly venturing outside the United States (slowly being the key word—so far Canada, the Caribbean and Mexico). We can also be seen on nice summer days riding our motorcycle through the Colorado mountains. To participate in People Behind the Scenes or to recommend a colleague, see the guidelines. |
