Welcome to the Institute for Ethical and Civic Engagement ( IECE ). Founded in 2005, the IECE 's purpose is to nurture and encourage ethical and civic education at the University of Colorado at Boulder, to prepare our students for a lifetime of service to society as thoughtful, ethical and engaged citizens and contribute to the vitality of the many communities we serve from the local level to the global. The IECE is building on the momentum already established to make ethical and civic engagement a defining characteristic of our educational community. The health of our communities and democracy depends on an engaged and informed citizenry. The university should play an important role in supporting and providing students with the knowledge, skills, experiences and motivation to contribute to the common good. The IECE serves as a catalyst and facilitator for this effort.
