Pioneer Dreamers Participate in Public Achievement Program

April 2008 Newsletter

The Public Achievement (PA) program is an experienced-based civic education initiative that empowers young people to engage in public work.

As part of a statewide Colorado Campus Compact initiative, Pioneer Dreamers in Lafaytte are one of 8 groups in CO taking part in PA. This program is overseen by Janel Chin, an AmeriCorps VISTA, and supported by 8 CU student volunteers.

Pioneer Dreamers have developed PA projects to address issues that they feel are important, which are:

1. Positive recreational opportunities in Lafayette for youth.

2. Challenges in the Lafayette community related to immigration issues.

3. Revitalization of the Peace Park in the Lafayette Gardens Trailer Park.
