Peace Corps: See the world, do some good University of Colorado students interested in worldwide travel, self-exploration and an opportunity to use their degree for a greater good are invited to attend a Thursday night informational session presented by the Peace Corps. "The Peace Corps is a great chance for CU students to pursue some of the lessons they've learned while getting their BA, or use their degree to help needy communities across the world," said Evan Taylor, the Peace Corps' Boulder campus coordinator. Taylor and other returned Peace Corps volunteers and recruiters will be available at the University Memorial Center session to share their personal experiences, discuss the application process and go over the various benefits and challenges of service. Typically, Peace Corps service involves a 27-month commitment that begins after a student has graduated. The first three months are spend learning a language, and the next two years are spent living abroad in a community doing grassroots development. "It's a great way to learn about other cultures, it's a great way to get started in development work, it's a great way to give back and challenge yourself in a way you've never been challenged," Taylor said. Currently, CU is ranked No. 3 in the nation among universities who have sent graduates into the Peace Corps. According to Taylor, 2,052 CU alumni have joined the service since 1961.
