Student LifeThe IEC's Student Services office is available to help students acclimate to life in the US. Staff are available to answer questions regarding visa and immigration issues, housing, insurance, banking and more. The Student Services office also organizes cultural activities for IEC students each session. IEC students can choose to live in university dormitory rooms (two persons per room with meals included) or university family housing. Many students prefer to find apartments or rooms in the Boulder area. Student Services Advisors are on hand to help students with their housing needs. In addition to offering advice and assistance to our students who wish to apply to a university or college, the IEC provides a bridge to the University of Colorado (CU). The IEC works closely with the CU Office of Admissions to facilitate the process for our students, and every session CU admissions officers meet with students who want to apply. The CU Office of Admissions may inform you that you are academically qualified for study but cannot be granted admission because of insufficient preparation in English. If you are so notified, you are encouraged to enroll at the IEC. When you have achieved the required proficiency, the admission process can be completed. RecreationThe IEC provides many opportunities for students to enjoy recreational activities outside the classroom. Each session the IEC hosts activities such as skiing, horseback riding, rafting, social parties and receptions, outings to museums and the theater, and other seasonal activities. IEC students may choose to join the Student Recreation Center for a reasonable fee. The Recreation Center features an indoor ice rink, an indoor running track, weight rooms, swimming and diving pools, handball and squash courts, gymnasiums, exercise rooms and a climbing wall. Nearby are tennis courts and ball fields. A wide selection fo sports equipment may be checked out from the Recreation Center. The community of Boulder offers a variety of cultural events, such as art exhibits, plays, concerts and fairs. In addition, there are many opportunities to participate in sports of all kinds. Skiing and snowboarding are winter favorites. Hiking along the interesting trails of Boulder's own 10,000-acre mountain park is popular. Cycling, jogging, tennis, golf and inline skating are also very popular n Boulder. Outings to cultural and sporting events are arranged by the IEC for students every session. The city of Boulder is a safe, friendly community of 100,000 people. The climate is temperate with an average of 300 days of sunshine each year. Boulder is within easy reach of the resources of metropolitan Denver, including major museums, entertainment venues, and four major league sports teams. Denver International Airport is 70 minutes to the east and accessed with the student bus pass. The Boulder campus is close to many city, state and national parks, and is only a short drive from some of the most spectacular scenery and the best recreational areas in the country. Rocky Mountain National Park is one hour to the north. Eldora ski resort is 40 minutes to the west, accessed with the student bus pass. World-famous ski resorts such as Aspen, Vail and Breckenridge are serviced by a special university bus. Back to Top |
