Evening Classes for the Boulder Community

The International English Center at the University of Colorado at Boulder offers courses in English as a Second Language (ESL) to Boulder residents and visitors. Students should have at least a high school education. Evening classes are integrated skills classes so that students can improve in all skill areas.

Classes meet at 1030 13th Street, on "The Hill" in Boulder.

Monday / Wednesday Classes - 6:30 - 8:30 P.M.

Tuition:

$355, materials included - Half-semester

$675, materials included - Full-semester

Beginning Level (NCIE 6100)

for students who:

  • speak in simple sentences
  • have a limited vocabulary
  • understand some (not necessarily all) of what is said
  • are familiar with the present tense (but may have some difficulty with other tenses)

Intermediate Level (NCIE 6200)

for students who:

  • have more than a basic vocabulary
  • understand much of what is said
  • can use basic verb tenses effectively
  • can read a variety of materials, but experience some difficulty
  • need guidance in writing

Advanced Level (NCIE 6300)

for students who:

  • have an extended vocabulary
  • understand most verb tenses effectively
  • read a variety of materials with little difficulty
  • write effectively with little guidance
  • have a desire to polish their skills

Tuesday / Thursday Classes - 6:30 - 8:30 P.M.

American English Pronunciation and Speaking

for students who:

  • Want to improve your conversation and public speaking skills
  • Want to improve your American English Sounds, intonation, and stress patterns

QUALIFIED, EXPERIENCED INSTRUCTORS

Teachers have an M.A. in ESL or the equivalent.

PARTIAL SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE

NO PRESSURE ABOUT GRADES

Courses are non-credit and designed to help students understand and communicate better in English.

A CHANCE TO MEET PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITY

Students come from a variety of countries.

A STUDENT-CENTERED CURRICULUM

Teachers assess the language needs and interests of each class group.

SMALL CLASSES

Class size ranges from 5 to 15 students.

The first night is placement. Students are interviewed and do a writing sample. Placement will finish before 8:30 p.m.
