Job Responsibilities

 

Student Service Coordination (80%)

1.Teaching TOWARD (Training in Organization, Wellness, Academic, Responsibility & Discipline) Class for reinstated students

         managing the probation/dismissed/reinstated students

2.Coordinating and managing KSU class audit for high-intermediate and high level full-time students

3.Responsible for enforcing and following through on the Missing Student Protocol

4.Being one of the primary instructors of DAS 030

         updating the DAS 030 main page

         sending advising emails through sections of DAS 030

5.New ELP students

         conducting new student interviews at the lower levels

         problem solving to help new international students

         interpretation support for new Chinese students

6.Regular semester duties

         assisting in all pre-placement and placement meetings

         on-going interpretation support for the Chinese students

         Being on call for non-life-threatening emergency student problems (ex.arrests, traffic tickets, housing problems)

         serving on the advising committee

         assisting in EPT result sessions

7.Mentoring the advising student workers, as needed

 

Program Support (20%)

         coordinate with International Student and Scholar Services and International Programs

         Assist with student problems involving other offices on campus

         Track attendance two times every semester for ALL students in the ELP

         Assisting with teacher and student appeals of placement

 

Qualifications

Required:

         Bachelorís in Education, ESL, Int'l Studies, Communication Studies, Modern Languages & Intercultural Communication, or related fields

         proficiency in Mandarin Chinese (speaking, writing, reading)

         proficiency in English (speaking, writing, reading)

 

Preferred:

         Masterís degree in Student Services, Education, ESL, Academic Advising, Int'l Studies, Communication Studies, Modern Languages & Intercultural Communication, College Student Counseling and Personnel Services or related fields.

         experience in working with international students

         experience in advising, higher education, student services, student retention

         experience in classroom teaching

         experience in on-line / distance programs (K-State On-line desirable)

         excellent written and oral communication skills

         ability to build teams within and with outside constituents

         problem solving skills

 

Screening to begin:November 5th, 2012.

Salary range: $32,000-$34,000 based on education and experience.

Anticipated start date: December 2012.
