Keith Folse |
Plenary (Friday 8:45-10:00 repeated 1:30-2:15 in
Jefferson) The least you should know about ELL grammar Dr. Keith Folse Teachers’
attitudes toward grammar vary widely, but what do teachers really know about ELL grammar? What is ELL grammar and how is it different
from what we all studied in 8th grade as native speakers? Should K-12 teachers know a different base
of ELL grammar than adult ed or EAP teachers?
Or does the skill area matter more so that a conversation teacher must
know a different grammar than the composition or reading teacher? In this talk, participants will have an
opportunity to test their knowledge of ELL grammar issues. Keith Folse is associate professor of TESOL at the University
of Central Florida. His main research
interests are vocabulary and best practices in teaching grammar and
composition. He has written over fifty
language books, most recently Keys to
Teaching Grammar to ELLs (University of Michigan Press) and the new
edition of five books of the Great
Writing series (Heinle Cengage). |
