About

The Interactive Assistance Lab, run by Sarel van Vuuren, PhD, is a research lab in the Institute of Cognitive Science at the University of Colorado Boulder. With a multidisciplinary focus and applied outlook, the Lab creates and advances state-of-the-art computational learning solutions that can help individuals overcome, navigate and remediate longterm speech, language and literacy skills challenges.

The Lab's solutions are uniquely personalized and accessible. Web and mobile based, they feature life-like virtual tutors and therapists modeled after expert practitioners to interactively guide learning and encourage participation. In clinical research studies, they have helped new and struggling students to learn foundational reading skills; people with cognitive disabilities to navigate skills challenges; and individuals with acquired neurologic speech and language disorders such as Parkinson’s disease and aphasia to speak better.
