John O'Loughlin was one of three guest editors for a special issue of Eurasian Geography and Economics on the Caucasus, published March 2007. The issue presents five specialized articles on political, population, and economic geographies of the region, as well as an overview and a special map supplement. Authors include several IBS and PEC program affiliates (Johno, Frank Witmer, Ted Holland, Andrew Gustafson, Tom Dickinson, and Nancy Thorwardson) as well as several highly esteemed research colleagues from around the world.

Andrew Linke, graduate student in the Department of Geography, (advisee of Dr. John O'Loughlin) has been selected as a recipient of a U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarship for participation in the Arabic program in Cairo, Egypt from June 17 to August 15, 2007. Quoting his letter of acceptance "Of many outstanding applications submitted, the Review Panel found yours to be particularly impressive. The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State, the sponsor of the Critical Language Scholarships, joins the American Research Center in Egypt (ARCE) and the Council of American Overseas Research Centers (CAORC) in offering congratulations on your acceptance."
