FORMAL POPULATION GEOGRAPHY ASSIGNMENT #1: ANALYSIS OF COUNT DATA |
Due October 4th (just before Fall Break and Frans' lectures)
1. Click the PowerPoint Files button on the class web page and download and print the 3 PowerPoint files on log-linear, log-rate, and logistic modeling. Bring these to class.
2. From the same web page, click the links button and select the JSTOR option. Then search for articles by Andrei Rogers and download and print one of them.
3. In your Pampel text on logistic regression, read pages 1-54.
4. Read the Morgan and Teachman article on logistic regression (handout).
5. With your favorite statistical package (e.g., STATA, SPSS, SAS) reproduce the parameter estimates and associated odds ratios of one of the two numerical illustrations analyzed in Frans's PowerPoint files that you've downloaded: i.e., do either the "leaving parental home" or the "political attitudes" illustrations. In two to three pages, summarize what you did and what you found.
6. In anticipation of Frans's
lectures, read his paper in your class reader (the first paper in the collection).
