Mike Aguilar is a first year graduate student at the
School of International Service, at the American University
in Washington DC. He is specializing in International
Peace and Conflict Resolution and has begun his Substantial
Research Paper (SRP) in the field of peacemaking and
peacekeeping. His research concerns the future of this
approach for self- and world-transformation and long-lasting
peace. Mike has also begun his new position at the State
Department, within the Office of Policy, Planning and
Resources for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs. While
working at the United States Agency for International
Development (USAID) as an intern at the Bureau of Legislative
and Public Affairs, Mike showed an interest in public
diplomacy after meeting Under-Secretary Karen Hughes
at an event with the White House Malaria Summit. His
interest enabled him to pursue his dream to work at
the State Department. In mid-January, Mike was informed
by USAID Assistant Administrator J. Edward Fox that
he would be relocated to State. While still a newbie
in the fascinating world of Washington DC, Mike attributes
his early success to the great faculty and staff at
the IAFS program and Political Science department at
CU-Boulder, and all who pointed him in the right direction,
teaching him numerous and valuable life lessons. |
