Mandatory Training for Supervisors of Classified Staff
December 18, 2008
From: Candice A. Bowen, Executive Director of Human Resources
As a follow up to Chancellor Peterson’s e-memo regarding Mandatory Training for Supervisors of Classified Staff, below is additional information that can assist you in completing the required courses.
To reiterate, there are three mandatory training courses supervisors of classified staff must complete. They are:
- Discrimination and Harassment (must complete within 30 days from hire date or promotion to supervisor)
- Successful Supervision in the Classified System: An Overview (must complete within 90 days from hire date or promotion to supervisor)
- Performance Management (must complete within 90 days from hire date or promotion to supervisor)
Discrimination and Harassment training is offered by the Office of Discrimination and Harassment. This office provides numerous trainings tailored to specific employee groups. A complete list of these trainings can be found at http://www.colorado.edu/odh/training.html.
You can attend any of the workshops to fulfill this requirement. You do not need to register for this course, but please bring your employee ID# with you to the workshop. This course is not available online.
Successful Supervision in the Classified System: An Overview, is only available online through SkillPort. To access SkillPort, go to the myCU Portal link http://my.cu.edu. (This new Web-based training tool replaces Blackboard). To successfully pass this course, you must receive a score of at least 70% (14 out of 20 correct).
Performance Management can be taken either online or onsite. The site based course schedule can be found
at: http://www.colorado.edu/humres/training/cpp.html and you must register in advance to take this course. Please contact the Office of Labor Relations at 303-492-0956 to register for this program. You can also take this course online through the myCU Portal link
http://my.cu.edu. If you elect to take this course online, I strongly encourage you to review the UCB Performance Management User Guide. To successfully pass this course, you must score at least 75% (15 of 20 correct) on your first attempt. If you do not pass the test on your first attempt, you must attend the site based training program..
Organizational and Employee Development (OED) will monitor compliance for completion of the mandatory training and follow up with appointing authorities to let them know which employees have not completed the required training within their respective areas. You may also contact OED at 303-492-8103 for assistance.
To verify your fulfillment of all three mandatory courses, you may access your training record in
PeopleSoft HRMS. Your departmental personnel/payroll liaison (PPL) can help you access your training record.
Thank you for completing these courses. I hope they help you, as a supervisor of classified staff,
understand some general information regarding campus policies and State Personnel Board rules.
