Appendix A: I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification for CU-Boulder Employees Working Outside of the United States

November 14, 2006

On occasion, CU-Boulder employees are hired to perform duties and responsibilities outside of the United States. These employees are typically hired by the Office of International Education in their study abroad or semester-at-sea programs, but employees may be hired in other campus departments. The administration of the employment eligibility verification for these employees will be initiated by the personnel liaison in the responsible department.

The Form I-9 should be mailed to the employee by the personnel liaison. The employee must be instructed to complete Section 1. of the form in the presence of a notary public. The notary public should complete the employer section (Section 2.), sign and notarize the form.   A copy of the document(s) used to verify employment eligibility must be returned with the I-9 form. NOTE: At the request of Human Resources, the departmental personnel liaison will follow up with the employee as needed if a copy of the required documentation is not received or if an updated I-9 is required.

The completed original Form I-9 must be immediately returned to the Department of Human Resources at the following address:
