Terminating Employees

Listed below are resources to help manage departing employees. Before a supervisor terminates an employee, the supervisor should contact the Office of Labor Relations. Before a supervisor begins a reorganization or considers the need for layoffs, the supervisor should contact Employment Services.

Exit Survey/Interview Program for Classified and Officer/Exempt Professional Employees
Human Resources is gathering information on employee turnover in the classified staff and exempt professional employee ranks. This information will be used to help retain employees and identify employee relations concerns.

Retiring Employees
Retirees may register to have their name appear in the Retiree Skills Bank by completing the Retiree Application Form.

Outplacement Services and Resources - (PDF format)

Payroll and Benefits Services (PBS)
The departing employee must contact PBS regarding continuation of insurance following termination (or cancellation--to avoid additional charges), by the 15th of the termination month. Information about continuing insurance under COBRA will be mailed directly to the departed employee. Employees who are leaving to become PERA retirees should make an appointment with a PBS Benefits Counselor. 303-735-6500.

Employment Services
Employment Services offers information about employment and compensation processes for classified staff. 303-492-6475.

Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP)
FSAP (formerly EAP), provides counseling services, including transition support, career decision making, handling stress, etc., for employees. Free of charge--up to six sessions. 303-492-2172 or 303-492-8999.

Unemployment Compensation
The Office of Labor Relations manages the Unemployment Compensation Program. For information regarding eligibility for unemployment benefits, please see the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment website.
