The following programs are offered through the University of Colorado at Boulder. Whether you are a parent looking for fun activities and educational opportunities for your child, or a teacher seeking interesting and interactive experiences for your students, CU has a lot to offer.

Athletics Programs

Brief Description of Services: CU Athletics offers summer camps in football, basketball, volleyball, soccer, and tennis. For information about summer camps, visit their website at and fill in the electronic information request form. The Department of Athletics also holds sports clinics across the state to expose school children to the positive role models of collegiate student athletes and to the importance of academics. NCAA regulations require students to be in 8th grade or below.

Brief Description of Services: CU 4-K-12 is an outreach and in-service program guide for Colorado teachers. The CU 4-K-12 website provides a diverse offering of outreach programs available for teachers and students. Visit the website and use the easy search function to find programs for a specific curriculum, grade, or search by keyword. Examples of outreach programs include K-12 Foreign Language Exploratory Program, Will Power: Shakespeare Education Program, Read with the Buffs, CU in the House, Math Outreach to Elementary Schools, Citizen Explorer Satellite Program, and many more.

Brief Description of Services: The annual CU WIZARDS program provides an informal introduction to astronomy, chemistry and physics, intended primarily for students in grades 5 through 9. Each program lasts about an hour and includes several lively demonstration experiments. Program titles include, Shocking Facts about Electricity, The Chemistry of Light, and Black Holes. Admission is free and no reservations are required.

Fiske Planetarium

Brief Description of Services: At the Fiske Planetarium on the Boulder campus, science comes to life for the more than 25,000 visitors each year. The largest planetarium between Chicago and Los Angeles, the Fiske Planetarium helps visitors to discover the intriguing world of astronomy and space science. Programs include star shows, workshops, and labs. There are also educational programs available, such as the “Kids in Space” program, which introduces children to the Solar System. There is a complementary teacher's guide available that helps to explain some of the phenomena we see in the Solar System fairly regularly such as the phases of the moon, seasons and eclipses. Recreation Center

Brief Description of Services: The Student Recreation Center at the University of Colorado at Boulder is a student fee-funded facility. The Recreation Center is open seven days a week. Amenities include indoor swimming pools, an ice arena, a multi-purpose gym, a free weights room, a Fitness Systems room, squash courts, racquetball/handball courts, tennis courts, a martial arts room, a dance/aerobics room, locker and shower facilities, a sauna, and more. The on-site Children’s Center provides drop-in childcare for members of the Recreation Center while they are working out in the facility. Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Brief Description of Services:Science, math and technology programs for ages 4 through 16 years of age. Science Discovery offers innovative, experimental programs that include summer and after school classes, Physics for Fun, Summer Explorers, summer wilderness trips, and topics ranging from Black Holes to Bugs and Molecules, and from Dinosaurs to Lights and Lasers.  Science Discovery reaches out to teachers, families, and children of all ages.

Brief Description of Services: The Museum offers a variety of programs including guided tours, exhibits and galleries, workshops for educators and adults, and programs such as Discovery Corner which is a hands-on exhibit that allows children of all ages to explore natural history by touching specimens and artifacts. The gallery also hosts Family Days, Scout tours, and provides gallery backpacks for families with young children. The backpacks are available for checkout and contain activities and books related to the museum’s permanent galleries. The museum also rents portable kits for in-class use by teachers and students. The kits contain museum specimens, videos, books, and activities. For information about any of the educational programs, call 303-492- 4843.
