  1. What is Employment Services?
    Employment Services is a part of the Department of Human Resources and provides the Boulder campus and System Administration of the University of Colorado with services related to administration of the Colorado State Personnel System, including recruitment, assessment, and referral of classified staff; job evaluation (classification) of positions; compensation administration; interpretation of State Personnel Rules and Procedures; personal services contract administration; and publication of staff pay plans.

  2. Where do I apply for open positions?
    Positions are posted online at www.jobsatcu.com. Applicants are prompted to submit applications online in response to a posted announcement.

    Classified staff positions are also posted in the lobby of the Employment Services office at 3100 Marine Street, Third floor, in Boulder. Assistance with the online application is available to applicants between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Paper applications are accepted for the following job classes only: Custodian I, Dining Services I and II, Grounds I, and General Labor I. Applications for these job classes are accepted only when a position has been posted. The paper application is available from the Employment Services office.

  3. Where do I find out about classified state jobs at CU-Boulder?
    1. Visit the Employment Services office (3100 Marine Street, Third floor, in Boulder).
    2. Visit www.jobsatcu.com.
    3. Jobs are sometimes advertised in local newspapers, such as the Boulder Daily Camera , Denver Post, etc.
    4. Jobs are also sometimes posted online at websites such as Jobing.com, Craigslist, Monster.com, and other specialized websites.

  4. When are jobs posted?
    Jobs are posted daily at www.jobsatcu.com. Advertisements in local newspapers typically run on Sundays.

  5. Do I need to be a resident of Colorado to apply for state jobs?
    Yes. State law indicates you must be a resident of the state of Colorado to apply for state classified jobs unless the position is listed as having received a waiver. A resident of Colorado is defined as someone who has a Colorado address. You must also be available for testing, if necessary.

  6. What are some of the typical state classified jobs at CU?
    There is a wide range of state classified jobs at CU-Boulder.  Examples include:
    • Custodian I
    • Administrative Assistant
    • Accounting Technician
    • Skilled Trades
    • Health Care Workers
    • Police Officers
    • Information Technology Professionals
    • Accountants and Budget Professionals
    • Counselors

  7. If I want to apply for a specific vacancy, what should I submit?
    You should submit exactly what the posting says to submit, typically an on-line application. All classified jobs at CU-Boulder require submission of an application. You may be asked to submit a copy of your educational transcripts for some jobs. You also may be asked to submit additional information, such as a letter of interest, resume, and/or references. Please read the posting very carefully for these requirements. Incomplete application materials could result in your being removed from consideration.

  8. I am interested in temporary jobs at CU-Boulder. What do I do?
    If you are interested in obtaining temporary work on campus, contact one of the temporary agencies currently under contract with the State. For a list of eligible temporary agencies, visit the state Temporary Service Vendors listing. When you contact the temporary agency, inform them that you are interested in temporary employment at CU-Boulder.

  9. What is the difference between jobs that are "Open Competitive" and "Departmental Promotional?"
    Any Colorado resident may apply for open competitive jobs, however only those people who already work on campus in permanent, classified staff positions may be considered for departmental promotional openings.

  10. How do I find out the Minimum Qualifications for jobs?
    The Minimum Qualifications for jobs always accompany the job postings. There are also reference books in the Employment Services office or you can refer to the Class Descriptions/Minimum Qualifications on the web.

  11. If I am already employed at CU and I want to transfer, what do I need to do?
    You need to submit an on-line application for positions in which you are interested. Make sure to check the "TRANSFER" button on the online application In addition, you may visit the Transfer Opportunities website for positions open to transfers. If you see a position listed in which you are interested, you may contact the hiring department directly to request an interview.

  12. Is there a central location where all state jobs are posted?
    The State of Colorado Employment Home Page contains a listing of current openings for all state agencies who choose to list their positions.

  13. Do you verify employment for current/past employees for outside companies (e.g., mortgage companies, etc.)?
    The Human Resources Records Office (303-492-3835) verifies information on current/past employees, Monday through Friday between 10:00 a.m. and Noon.

  14. Where are you located? What are your hours?
    Employment Services is located at the Administrative & Research Center - East Campus, 3100 Marine Street, 3rd Floor, in Boulder. Our regular office hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. (Office hours may vary during the summer months.)

  15. Can I send my resume for you to look over?
    Resumes are not accepted without an application. We are not able to keep resumes on file.

  16. Can I fax information to your office?
    We do accept faxed copies of supporting documentation required in the job posting, such as transcripts or resumes. The Employment Services fax number is (303) 492-4693. It is recommended that the applicant submit the originals under separate cover in the mail.

  17. How would I find out about non-classified jobs on campus (i.e., faculty, professional-exempt, etc.)?
    You would need to contact the particular department in which you are interested directly to learn of any openings. You may also refer to the listings on the Professional Exempt Job Listings page, although not all departments choose to post their professional exempt postings on this page. Some professional exempt and faculty positions are also posted at www.jobsatcu.com.
