University Perspective

Program Statement

The purpose of the University Perspective program is to retain and continuously develop campus staff from all levels of the organization by

Supporting CU-Boulder's building community initiative and providing peer networks;
Increasing staff awareness of the unique role each campus within the university system in meeting the higher education needs of the state; and
Engaging staff in discussions with various key officials to learn and understand the university's interactions with the legislature, the Board of Regents, and the community.

The University Perspective is sponsored by the four Boulder campus vice chancellors, the chancellor and system administration. Participants must be nominated and the appropriate administrative areas will make the final selections. Strong consideration will be given to individuals who have demonstrated leadership skills in their current job responsibilities. The program is available to all Boulder campus who have been employed at the university for at least two years and who meet fully competent performance expectations.

The University Perspective is a nine-month leadership development program. The format will include panels and speakers with class time to network and learn about other participants. You will be required to attend a Boulder Faculty Assembly, Staff Council, and UCSU Legislative Council meeting. In addition, you will attend a Board of Regents meeting, visit the Colorado Springs Campus, UCDHSC (Downtown Denver Campus and Anschutz Medical Campus), and attend a legislative session at the state Capitol.

The University Perspective is not a training class and no assurances or guarantees can or will be made about participants' career progression. The program's objective is to expand staff knowledge beyond their individual department and campus and provide a broader understanding of the University of Colorado system. To achieve this goal, participants will explore the unique role and mission of each of the three campuses and each campus's distinct role in meeting the higher education needs of the State of Colorado and its people.
