The Kittredge Honors Program
Our Mission
The Kittredge Honors Program (KHP) is a residential academic program
within the general Honors Program. Qualified first-year students who
are invited to participate in the Honors Program may elect to live in
an honors part of the Kittredge residence hall complex. Space is limited,
so interested students are urged to respond promptly to their invitations.
Selection is on
a first come first serve basis. There is a fee to participate in this
residence program.
KHP provides the flavor of a small liberal arts
college within the context of the vast resources of a major university.
As an incoming student,
we offer you the opportunity to associate with other bright, highly
motivated students in the College of Arts and Sciences, becoming part
of a special
community of peers and faculty. By sharing a common living space, you
will more easily find, interact with, and learn from other good students.
This relationship is enhanced by the intimate environment of the KHP
classroom, located in the dorm building itself, and by the presence
of the KHP director's office.
Our Curriculum
Each semester, students are expected to take one honors seminar within
KHP. Most courses fulfill a portion of the core curriculum for the
College of Arts and Sciences. In addition, students are expected
to attend
KHP
symposium lectures (about five each semester) that supplement the
KHP experience. KHP courses are designed to take advantage of the
residential
situation, extending learning and interaction beyond the classroom.
Throughout the year, special KHP colloquia
offered are designed to provide students with the connections, resources,
and motivation to complete honors requirements, produce a thesis, and
continue
with distinction.
Undergraduate research opportunities are presented along with instructions
from the library faculty and the honors writing faculty. Presentations
are also scheduled with the Study Abroad office and the TOP Scholarship
liaison.
Our Students
Honors students played an important role in creating KHP and they
continue to shape the program according to their needs, talents,
and bright ideas. Indeed, KHP's success relies upon the
extraordinary creativity,
leadership, and commitment of all members of the KHP community.
To help facilitate this cooperative effort, KHP has weekly events
including
symposiums, special events, and "flock" meetings. Beyond
campus, KHPers engage in activities like trips to museums, amusement
parks, cultural
performances, sporting events, and the great Colorado outdoors.
