What is the Honors Journal?
The Honors Journal promotes outstanding undergraduate writing at
the University of Colorado at Boulder. Open to all CU undergraduates,
not just honors students, the Honors Journal publishes each year
the best poetry, fiction, academic work, creative non-fiction,
and artwork submitted. The Honors Journal is delivered to all
campus administrators, departments and programs and is distributed
across campus and the around local community, as well as mailed to
other honors programs throughout the country. The Honors Journal now includes an online edition that includes the printed version and as well as additional images, videos and interactive content that cannot be published in a printed version.
How did the Honors Journal come about?
The Honors Journal was first published in 1992 under the supervision
of faculty mentor, Professor E. Christian Kopff and with the support
of Program Director, Jack Kelso. The first volumes were devoted
to academic undergraduate research, highlighting an article
by an outstanding
Honors Professor and abstracts from all Summa Cum Laude Theses.
From 1995-1998 the Journal went into hiatus.
In 1998 Honors Director, Dennis Van Gerven, re-instated the Journal under the supervision
of faculty mentor, Dr. Claudia Van Gerven. In 1998 the Journal expanded to include poetry, fiction, and black and white artwork,
as well
as academic work in an all student publication.
In 2002, the University of Colorado’s Department
of Publications entered the Honors Journal in the Council for
Advancement and Support
of Education, District VI Competition. This is a national/international
professional organization among universities across the US and
abroad. Our Honors Journal cover won the "Case District
VI, Silver Award of Excellence in Graphic Design" for cover of
1, 2, or 3 colors. How to Submit to the Honors Journal?
