Honors Convocation

Congratulations!

You or someone you know has completed the process to graduate with Latin honors and will be receiving the designation of summa cum laude, magna cum laude or cum laude at the College of Arts and Sciences Honors Convocation. Please read on for details on how you can help celebrate this achievement.

  • Who is invited: Students receiving Latin honors are encouraged to invite family members, friends, and mentors to share in the celebration. There is no limit to the number of people a student may bring. However, space is limited and we do ask that guests be courteous of one another if seating becomes scarce.
  • When: The Honors Convocation is held in both the fall and spring semesters from 9:00-11:00 a.m. the Thursday before the University’s Commencement Ceremony.
  • Dress: The majority of students elect to dress business casual. Graduation regalia are not worn at this event.
  • The Program: The Honors Convocation ceremony includes speeches by the Director of the Honors Program, the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and the Outstanding Graduate of the College. Students receiving Latin honors are then invited to come on stage to receive their medal and certificate from the Dean. A catered reception immediately follows the ceremony.
  • Seating: There is no assigned seating; students may sit with their family and friends anywhere they choose.
  • Parking: The closest parking to the UMC is in the Euclid AutoPark. Nearby metered parking is also available.
  • Absences: If you are unable to attend the Honors Convocation, you can pick up your medal and certificate in the Honors Program Office in the days prior to or after the event. If you would like to have these mailed, you must contact us with an address.
  • Photography: The Honors Program has contracted with GradImages to take photos of graduates as they are receiving their medal and certificate. GradImages will contact students directly regarding photo purchases.
