Dear Prospective Honors Student:

Every year the College of Arts and Sciences invites the top 10% of the entering freshman class to participate in honors. Top students in the colleges of Engineering, Business, Music and Journalism are also eligible to participate in the Honors Program. Honors students are eligible to take honors classes and enjoy the many other activities honors offers. All continuing students who maintain a 3.3 grade point average at the University of Colorado are also eligible to participate in honors.

The Honors Program is the flagship of the numerous academic neighborhoods available to undergraduate students at the University of Colorado at Boulder. The Honors Program offers about 80 courses per year for qualified students. These courses are limited in enrollment to approximately 15 students and provide eligible students with exciting and challenging academic environments. Faculty who teach for honors are carefully selected for their special interests and enthusiasm, their teaching ability in small discussion classes, and their insistence on high standards.

Freshmen honors students are eligible to participate in the Kittredge Honors Program (KHP). KHP is a residential academic program especially for Honors students. The University of Colorado also offers many other residential academic programs, all of which are highly sought-after and are appropriate for honors students.

Finally, the Honors Program provides the framework for students to graduate with Latin honors (cum laude, magna cum laude or summa cum laude). Through Departmental and General Honors programs, students conduct novel research, scholarship and creative work projects, and write and defend their honors theses in front of their chosen faculty committees.

We hope these opportunities sound interesting to you. Please contact me with any unanswered questions you may have.

Sincerely,

Paul D. Beale
