Honors Convocation Information Congratulations! You or someone you know has just completed the process to graduate with Latin Honors and will be receiving the designation of summa cum laude, magna cum laude, or cum laude at the College of Arts and Sciences Honors Convocation. Who is invited: All students receiving Latin Honors are encouraged to invite family members, friends, and mentors to share in the celebration. There is no limit to the number of people a student may bring. However, space is limited and we do ask that guests be courteous of one another if seating becomes scarce. When: The Honors Convocation is held in both the Fall and Spring semesters and scheduled from 9:00-11:00 AM the Thursday before the University’s Commencement Ceremony. A catered reception immediately follows. Where: The Glenn Miller Ballroom of the UMC (University Memorial Center). Dress: The majority of students elect to dress as business casual. Graduation regalia are not worn at this event. The Program: The Honors Convocation ceremony will include speeches by the Director of the Honors Program, the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and the Outstanding Graduate of the College. Students receiving Latin Honors will be invited to come on stage to receive their medal and certificate from the Dean. A catered reception immediately follows the ceremony. Seating: Students may sit with their family and friends anywhere they choose. At the appropriate time, they will be instructed to line up and receive their award. Parking: The closest parking to the UMC is in the Euclid AutoPark, located between Broadway and 18th Street. The rate is $1.50 per hour. Nearby metered parking is also available. Absences: If you are unable to attend the Honors Convocation, you can pick up your medal and certificate in the Honors Program Office in the days prior to or after the event. If you would like to have it mailed, you must contact us with an address.
