New History Master's Degree Area of SpecializationThe Department of History at the University of Colorado at Boulder is pleased to announce the opening of a new Master's Degree specialization in Asian History. Applications are now being accepted; the application deadline is January 1, 2008. Students may pursue graduate-level studies in history in the following fields: Modern East Asia (China and/or Japan); premodern South Asia; modern South Asia; premodern or modern Asia, broadly defined. Inter-area and interdisciplinary work, with one or more of the approximately 80 faculty members across campus who research and teach about Asia, also is highly encouraged. Some financial support for graduate study may be available through the Department of History in the form of fellowships and teaching assistantships. Additional funding may come from the University of Colorado’s National Resource Center in Asian Studies, which administers the Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) fellowship program through the U.S. Department of Education. In addition to advanced academic training, M.A. students who are interested in K-12 education can benefit from close ties between the Department of History and the nationally recognized Program for Teaching East Asia (TEA), which is based at the University of Colorado and conducts projects designed to enhance and expand teaching and learning about East Asia at the elementary and secondary school levelsl For information on Asian Studies at the University of Colorado at Boulder and the Program for Teaching East Asia, please consult the website of the University of Colorado’s Center for Asian Studies at: http://www.colorado.edu/cas/ |
