This review was compiled with the input of your fellow students and should in no way be regarded as a complete or exhaustive list of potential ID terms and essay questions for the final.  This review primarily draws on material covered since the midterm, though the final will be cumulative.

Potential essay questions:

-         How has international human rights law evolved in response to events such as the Holocaust, the Rwandan and Bosnian genocides, and Pinochet’s oppressive regime in Chile?

-         In what ways can fixed exchange rates beneficial and in what ways can they be harmful?

-         What strategies do terrorists use to accomplish their goals?  Focusing on just one of those strategies, discuss how states that are the targets of terrorism might best respond.

-         Describe the international community’s response to the Rwandan genocide.  What might explain why the United States, other states, and UN acted as they did?

-         What are some of the major ethical and practical issues that arise when determining adequate or proper punishments for genocide?

-         Explain the pros and cons of globalization in regards to countries that were affected by the Asian financial crisis.

-         What constitutes terrorism and why are different people at odds about the definition of terrorism? 

-         Explain, in reference to both India and Rwanda, how a census led to disastrous political and social consequences between two previously mixed groups.

-         Discuss the similarities and differences between colonization /decolonization in India and Africa.  Use specific examples.
