Speaker Series
The South Asia Speaker Series has been subsumed into The Center for Asian Studies Speaker Series. The Center for Asian Studies Speaker Series is an interdisciplinary forum for the presentation of innovative and exciting work on all areas of Asia by leading scholars in the field. The series invites scholars from universities in the U.S. and abroad to present their research and work related to Asia. An attempt is made to invite representatives from a wide range of disciplines, including History, Anthropology, Comparative Literature, Political Science, Asian Languages, Linguistics, etc. While promoting academic and community interest in the history and culture of Asia as a region, the series also seeks to encourage intellectual dialogue across regions by exploring themes that link historical, political and cultural developments within Asia to broader global and transnational forces and processes both in the past and in the present. The series is thus designed to contribute not only to the "World Areas" component of the History curriculum, but also to the department's efforts to expose undergraduate and graduate students to the interrelationship between transnational forces and local histories.
