More Useful Resources

This section contains a grab-bag of other types of sources that may be useful to the History Day researcher or teacher. Once again, this list is hardly comprehensive and does not contain all additional resources. Absolutely undertake your own internet search if what you are looking for is not on this page!

Georgetown American Crossroads Project
This site brings together a wide array of American Studies related projects.

My History is America's History-NEH
This ambitious site solicits and brings together oral histories, family histories, scrapbooks, diaries, notebooks, etc., from Americans from all walks of life. An amazing resource for the history of everyday American life.

Family Search-Genealogy Source
This resource, provided by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, represents an invaluable source for genealogical searches.

Smithsonian Institution Research Information System
This site is the gateway that will give the researcher access to the staggering holdings of the Smithsonian.

The Scout Report
A Publication of the Internet Scout Project, Computer Sciences Department, University of Wisconsin-Madison. According to the authors of the Scout Report,

"The Scout Report is a weekly publication offering a selection of new and newly discovered Internet resources of interest to researchers and educators. However, everyone is welcome to subscribe to one of the mailing lists (plain text or HTML). Subscription instructions are included at the end of each report."
This is a great resource that enables the researcher to keep abreast of the latest developments on the internet.

H-Net, The Humanities and Social Sciences Online
According to the authors of H-Net,

"H-Net is an interdisciplinary organization of scholars dedicated to developing the enormous educational potential of the Internet and the World Wide Web. The computing heart of H-Net resides at MATRIX: The Center for Humane Arts, Letters, and Social Sciences OnLine, Michigan State University, but H-Net officers, editors and subscribers come from all over the globe."

H-Net has dozens of discussion lists that cover a wide range of topics. If you are interested in seeing if your favorite subtopic of US history has a discussion list, go to the main page of H-Net and click on the "Discussion Networks" tab at the top of the page. H-Net also has a discussion list devoted to History Day. If you would like more information, click on the following link: H-Net History Day.
